When my son, Jesse, was born with his bladder on the outside of his body, I became his primary caregiver for almost twenty years. In that time, the pain and loss experienced by me and my family was great. Once Jesse reached medical independence, I had to find myself after having lost my marriage, my relationship with my other two children and my health. I had to rediscove beauty and find redemption in everyday occurences. This is my story but I believe that if one has ever experience pain and loss they will be able to relate for the search for redemption.

To what lengths will a mother go when her child is born with a birth defect? How does an entire family cope with such a situation? From where does she draw strength from day to day in order to navigate the challenges of such a situation?OUTER EDGE OF GRACE
Sarah Beaugez chronicles the events of her son's birth and the years of surgeries attendant with trying to overcome Bladder Exstrophy / Epispadias Complex. This is a birth defect wherein the pubic bones are spread apart, the bladder grows to the outside of the body, and the genitalia are splayed open. More than just a look at this medical condition, this is a story of a family's struggles to find some sense of normalcy throughout the process, striving to find healing, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The author lays bare her thoughts during the course of multiple hospital visits, lacing in her heartfelt emotions. She describes in enough detail each procedure in layman’s terms so the reader can get a sense of the stakes at each juncture of the process. Her focus on the welfare of her son also comes to the forefront, since she was the primary caregiver for the first 20 years of her child’s life. Her indomitable spirit to seek every avenue for success shines brightly many times, though there are equally as many moments tinged with the dark shadows of despair. Witness for yourself a mother’s transition from youthful naiveté to distraught mother to stalwart caregiver to victorious mother of a thriving adult son. Even through the final success, though, the author makes the reader privy to the emotional scars that came with the journey.
Additional Note from the Reader:
This book is handled as a memoir of the events, written out almost in diary style and fashion. Some of the chapters intertwine with one another, in that the timelines shift back and forth in order to make a certain point or provide a clearer description of how a series of events placed an emotional toll on everyone concerned. The language is plain, though not simplistic. Ms. Beaugez waxes eloquent on many occasions and builds profound insights into the whole situation. Her travail is our opportunity to learn and come away equipped to better deal with life’s challenges. As for the ‘copy editor’ in me, I found quite a few Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar (SPAG) errors in the text, though they do not hinder the flow of reading. Those nominal errors will likely be corrected with a revision very shortly. Why? Because I know Sarah from when we went to school in Ocean Springs, MS. I’m coaxing her to let me sift through the text, bring forward the fix actions, and then let her republish. Your experience with her family’s story should be richer for it.

OUTER EDGE OF GRACE edition by Sarah Beaugez Rodney Robinson Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This book offers hope for those who've faced arduous trials alone. Written in a relatable style, "Outer Edge of Grace" proves that through love, we can overcome the seemingly insurmountable.
I am so proud of you for reaching deep inside your feelings and going forward knowing you did what any mom would have done given the same situation. I hope this has helped you heal from what you lost in your labor of love.
Thank you for baring your soul in such a way that I felt your story. You witnessed a beautiful testimony even though painful. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for continued healing. May you one day be rewarded with a healthy and happy relationship with your children.
There are few books I've read to compare with this short, life-affirming true story of love and courage. A page turner, you will shed some tears and find hope when you think there is none. Suddenly, life will gain a new perspective, your soul balance, your heart understanding. A must read.
This is an eye-opening, inspirational story of victory over hardship and tragedy. That victory did not come without a price, without taking its toll on a family--and may not have looked or felt like victory along the way. But it was a victory, and it was a beautiful example of God's abiding grace.
A very dramatic read, the writing is very dramatic, you could feel the writers anquish as she conveyed it, it seemed this writing was almost therapeutic, the words would be too difficult not to write down. Not many people can write this way,
Amazing inciteful book! First hand account of a very tenacious mothers love, will power and endurance during unfathomable situations at every turn in her and her familys life. I read in one sitting and urge others to do the same ; true testament of faith.
